Smoothies

A good smoothie really comes down to the right proportions and your favorite flavors.  Here are some simple guidelines:

FRUIT – Using 1 cup of your favorite frozen fruit is easiest.  You won’t need ice cubes, and frozen fruit is always in season.

LIQUID – 3/4 cup liquid is usually enough.  If you like a thicker smoothie, add less liquid.  If you like a thinner smoothie, add more liquid.  Try unsweetened plant milk, like almond or coconut.  Water works, too, or even fresh orange juice.

GREENS – Throw in a handful of baby spinach or baby kale.  You probably won’t even notice it’s in there!  Remove any stems before adding to the blender for a better texture.

SWEETENER – No using honey or maple syrup on the Daniel Fast!  But, adding in a banana or 3 or 4 pitted dates adds a perfect amount of sweetness.

EXTRAS – Experiment a little here.  Try a tablespoon of chia seeds or 2 tablespoons of oats.  If it works with your flavors, throw in a tablespoon of unsweetened peanut or almond butter.

Smoothie pictured above is 1 cup frozen blueberries, 3/4 cup unsweetened coconut almond milk, 1 tablespoon chia seeds, 2 tablespoons oats, and 3 pitted dates.
